Flushed with success

In all the excitement about Ratatouille, I've been ignoring the other rat movie: Flushed Away. It turns out the trailer for that one has already been officially released. My first impression was that it's a shame they're using computer animation to mimic stop motion (the characters aren't even furry), but like all Aardman films I think it will be redeemed by its humour and writing. Even though it's due out in November and Ratatouille is slated for June next year (I think they were originally scheduled to come out around the same time, until Ratatouille got delayed) it is edifying to see two big budget good quality films about rats come out in the near future. How many years since the last one? *cough*Secret of NIMH*cough*

The Money Pit? Never heard of it. Did it feature rats, or was it only a cameo?

The reason they used CG is water is a bitch to do in stop motion.

Well, there was Secret of NIMH II (1998) and Killer Rats (2003)... Oh, wait, GOOD-QUALITY rat movies? Dang.

The Great Mouse Detective (1986) featured a slick rat villain... Ummm, okay, I'm not doing a lot for our case, am I?

This is one of those cases where it's better to quit while you're ahead. :)

A saw this trailer while seeing Over the Headge. I'm glad he's been given a studio to work with after his last one got toasted to the ground!

I'm watching the Internet Movie Database closly for quotes from the Aardman staff. I expect them to feel a little awkward about using CG to imitate thair traditional clay style.

Do you think that's why they teamed up with Dreamworks? They need to put out a new movie to help pay for a new studio, and they don't have the time or money to start building models again from scratch. I still would rather have cute, furred characters but written by the Aardman team.

Possably. I know the dreamworks staff had a lot of respect for the man.
