The rat's adventures in New Jersey

I did eventually get into New Jersey after a few more delays. There I had the great fortune of having shy_matsi helping me. He took me to a "petting zoo" where I got to see my first ever raccoons in person! Their tails are nowhere near as long and floofy as they had led us to believe. It seems that raccoons have been exaggerating their attributes in the furry fandom. ;) Nevertheless, even though these were sadly overfed specimens, it was a delight to see them and finally come face to face with my partner's totem.

The next day mortonfox took me geocaching! I'd done this before in Australia, but I was very glad for the opportunity to get out into nature during my visit here. Many photos from my adventures with him are available in my Flickr account. See the props from a home-made horror movie and many other oddities.

New Jersey

Best of all was the opportunity to meet tuskyn a fur who has done a lot for the plushie community and also a generous and lovely person. Travelling means I have been deprived of many of my favourite plush for some time and his house and his kindness in sharing his plush with me gave me a much needed recharge.

Raccoon heaven

Now I am safely ensconsed in New York thanks to the generosity of quentincoyote. rapidtrabbit and jbadger have already taken me for a spin of the city and Rapid promises to do more today. It is my amazing good fortune to have met so many kind and generous people (many of whom have also made important contributions to furry fandom) on my trip.

Glad you finally got to see a 'qoon. We keep seeing wild ones here and thinking they must have just been mischeviously hiding while you were around.

Yes. All the wild animals (except for squirrels) seem to be hiding from me. No raccoons and no rats, not even in New York, which is meant to be home to millions of them.

Those cute raccoons don't look that fat. Remember they are designed to gain weight and store fat for the cold winter months.

And you're cute under those plushies!

You geocache too? Excellent. I'll want to have a few words with you when I get back to Australia. (One could even use this as an incentive to get me to come down for a long weekend. ^_^ )

It was GREAT to see you at FC, Marko!! A furry con is an amazing trip into total furry immersion for a few days, and FC was no exception. After my first furry con (MFM 3) I had to process the whole experience for a couple of weeks. :o) I'm sorry I wasn't able to see you in suit or suit with you, but I'm glad I was able to spend time chatting with you nevertheless. We rats need to stick together! I apologize if Foxwell and I were too loud at the plushie party, as you looked like you were in heaven, buried under all those huge plushies. :o) Rest assured, you've got lots of furiends here in the US, Ratty! I hope to see you again in the future. *hugs*

Oh no! I didn't say that, love. Just that the raccoon PR machine has been overstating your virtues and maybe we rodents shouldn't feel so inadequate.

And judging by how fat they were, they looked like very popular raccoons.
