I did eventually get into New Jersey after a few more delays. There I had the great fortune of having
shy_matsi helping me. He took me to a "petting zoo" where I got to see my first ever raccoons in person! Their tails are nowhere near as long and floofy as they had led us to believe. It seems that raccoons have been exaggerating their attributes in the furry fandom. ;) Nevertheless, even though these were sadly overfed specimens, it was a delight to see them and finally come face to face with my partner's totem.
The next day
mortonfox took me geocaching! I'd done this before in Australia, but I was very glad for the opportunity to get out into nature during my visit here. Many photos from my adventures with him are available in my Flickr account. See the props from a home-made horror movie and many other oddities.
Best of all was the opportunity to meet
tuskyn a fur who has done a lot for the plushie community and also a generous and lovely person. Travelling means I have been deprived of many of my favourite plush for some time and his house and his kindness in sharing his plush with me gave me a much needed recharge.
Now I am safely ensconsed in New York thanks to the generosity of
quentincoyote.
rapidtrabbit and
jbadger have already taken me for a spin of the city and Rapid promises to do more today. It is my amazing good fortune to have met so many kind and generous people (many of whom have also made important contributions to furry fandom) on my trip.
