On a lighter political note

Kudos to both Barnaby Joyce and Peter Garrett for making me laugh: Barnaby Joyce blasts Parliament art.

Is a "durrie muncher" anything like a "nerf herder"??

Wed, Dec. 16th, 2009 11:44 pm (UTC)

I don't know what either of those things mean!

Wed, Dec. 16th, 2009 11:51 pm (UTC)

According to the Urban Dictionary:

durrie muncher -n. Someone who smokes cigarettes (durries).

durrie -n. Generic term for a cigarette in the Antipodeas, esp. Australia. Short for 'Bull Durham' - an old brand of rolling tobacco.

And the Bull Durham brand comes from Durham, North Carolina, U.S.A., woohoo!

"Nerf herder" is a Star Wars reference... how does someone not get a Star Wars reference?!?!

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 12:02 am (UTC)

Princess Lea called Han Solo it in the Millennium Falcon from one of the Star Wars movies. I know the reference. As does a musical band called Nerf Herder.

Who strangely enough seem to be Trekkies (shouldn't they be STAR WARRIORS?? I think they're at the wrong con)

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 12:51 am (UTC)

Like a Strom Trooper and an anime con, wrong? X3

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 12:11 am (UTC)

It's always the silly posts where I have to step in and mediate. I think the nerf herder jibe was directed at me. And I still don't get it! What does it mean?

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 12:13 am (UTC)

All I know is what Guma told me. I've lived in a different country to you. I can't be expected to get all the same cultural references as you guys!

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 12:28 am (UTC)

but it's Star Wars!!!... the very best thing you can do right now is go watch The Empire Strikes Back!

and then you'll understand this, too

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 01:15 am (UTC)

Oh, I make it a point never to watch sequels. They're never as good as the first movies. :P Yes, of course I've seen Empire and I get the ton ton reference, but why should I remember Lea calling Solo a nerf herder? Just tell me what it means! The only nerf I know of is the soft projectile.

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 01:26 am (UTC)

It pretty much means someone who's a hick, redneck, bogan, or uncultured individual. Like a swineherd.

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 01:46 am (UTC)

As for the meaning of a Nerf, with illustrations and even the aforementioned reference here you go.

Thank you! So refreshing to get a straight answer around here for a change. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Harvard!)

Thu, Dec. 17th, 2009 03:35 am (UTC)

Oh but it's so much more fun to tease you!!

I'm getting progressively angrier with my icons. Don't make me pull out my "enraged" icon!
