And again

Many of you will have read that Queensland is being menaced by Tropical Cyclone Yasi. I want to assure you all that ristin and I are safe and well. Queensland is a big state, and the most we've seen of it so far is a little rain. Ironically, as the north of the state is getting battered, outside is peaceful blue skies. Cyclones rarely get this far south. But I am worried for some dear rat friends who live much nearer to the path of destruction, but they too seem south of the worst of it. I am thinking of them and hoping for the best. The most we need to worry about is the risk of more flooding, but even that seems unlikely now. But I hate seeing my fellow Queenslanders suffer like this. You'd think we'd be entitled to some peace now?

Us Gladstone ratties are safe, though it was quite unnerving to see all the birdlife (including the crows) pack up shop and fly out. It was deathly silent outside without the usual lorikeet/parrots.

We were expecting galeforce winds and torrential downpour rain here, but nothing happened.

It makes you worry more knowing that USA is beint hit with a big blizzard, a volcano erupted the other day in Japan, China and NZ have had earthquakes, WA and SA have 40+ degree heatwaves and bushfires atm. Makes you worry that Mother Nature is just gearing up for an ultimate backhanding.

I'm glad to know you guys are fine. Yesterday when I saw the news, of course got worried, then went to look at google earth your location and the place where the cyclone would make landfall.

1,350 Km to the North.

Then I felt more confident that you guys were going to be fine. *hugs*

I figured you guys were too far south to be in danger, so I will be keeping my fingers crossed for those people who are in danger.

I wish you lot in Queensland would stop hogging the weather :)

We in the West are melting, even our suposed Cyclone Bianca melted
into nothing before it made land fall.

I do feel very sorry for the people of Queensland you do not seem to
be winning with the weather at present, 3 cyclones since Xmas.

The latest one "Yasi" about at big as they get.

Stay safe there, y'all. :/ And by "y'all", I mean not just you, but everyone in Queensland, and the rest of the people down under. I'm keeping my claws crossed for you.

I'm glad you two are still okay *hugs*

If there's an upside to the recent disasters, it's that most SE Queenslanders would have learnt sign language by now :)
