Roland Rat!

Look what I got in the mail this week!

For those of you who don't remember, Roland Rat (aka Roland Rat Superstar) was a puppet from the early 80s who was credited with saving a TV station. Considering the bad press rats normally get, I think this is a noteworthy achievement and I respect him a lot for it. This is why I'm so pleased to have brought back a bit of my childhood with this plush. I know I like to blame The Secret of NIMH, but Roland might be the real reason I'm a rat. This is not to say he was a good role model for rats; he was arrogant and rude, but his fans (me among them) loved him for it. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, even if it was usually to tell you how famous he is.

I remember watching his show, for some reason the time they did The Sound of Music sticks in my head ;)

"Rat fans, rat fans!" Roland is the cutest. I'd never heard of him before I came to England, but when I did, I was enraptured.

Secret of NIMH, eh? C'mon, you had a crush on Justin, admit it! I know I sure did (still do, actually)!

I'm not sure I did at the time. Believe it or not, I would have been relatively innocent when I'd first encountered NIMH. I admit that Mrs Brisby is one of the few mice I actually fancy.

Really now? Mrs. Brisby? I had a crush on her too. Her and Justin equally.

Awwww, so cute!

(Oddly enough, the next thing that popped into my head was the work of an artist whose name escapes me for the moment, who specialises in adorable (generally white, as I recall) rats, often *ahem* enjoying themselves)
